Malaysia Reinvents Its Industrial Identity With Chinese Smart Manufacturing Factories

Sapura Industrial Bhd has taken a decisive step into the future of manufacturing with the launch of its new factory in Gurun, Kedah, a facility built in partnership with Zhejiang Zhongze Precision Technology Co Ltd of China. This venture marks a significant diversification for Sapura Industrial, which has long been known for its automotive components. Now, the company is positioning itself as a player in the high-precision energy component sector, producing battery containers and covers designed for energy storage applications. The inauguration, officiated by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, signals not only a new chapter for Sapura Industrial but also a broader shift in Malaysia’s industrial landscape.

The managing director, Datuk Syed Izuan Syed Kamarulbahrin, emphasized that this move builds on decades of manufacturing expertise while opening a platform for long-term growth. He underscored the importance of innovation, collaboration, and advanced manufacturing in creating lasting value and contributing to Malaysia’s growing energy ecosystem. The collaboration with ZZ Tech brings together Sapura’s operational experience and the Chinese company’s precision technology, resulting in a facility equipped with smart manufacturing systems, automation, and comprehensive traceability to ensure quality and efficiency.

Wu Shang, chairman of ZZ Tech, highlighted Malaysia’s strong manufacturing foundation and Sapura’s industry capabilities as the perfect complement to his company’s technological expertise. The venture aim to build a competitive base for high-precision energy components that will serve both regional and global markets. The project is expected to generate more than 200 jobs in advanced manufacturing, while also creating opportunities for local suppliers and supporting industries.
