PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BRI) has reaffirmed its role as a key driver of Indonesia’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) sector. By the end of June 2026, the bank had disbursed Rp 103.81 trillion in Kredit Usaha Rakyat (KUR) to more than 2 million borrowers nationwide, underscoring its commitment to inclusive financing and grassroots economic empowerment.
Focus on Productive Sectors
The majority of BRI’s KUR allocation has been directed toward productive industries. Agriculture accounted for 42.68 percent of total disbursement, while trade followed with 32.34 percent. This strategic focus reflects BRI’s intent to channel financing into sectors that directly support community needs and national economic resilience.
According to Akhmad Purwakajaya, BRI’s Director of Micro Business, KUR is more than a financing instrument—it is a cornerstone of the bank’s broader mission to strengthen Indonesia’s economic foundations. “By prioritizing productive sectors, particularly agriculture, we aim to enhance food security, foster entrepreneurship, and expand equitable economic growth across regions,” he explained.
Driving UMKM Graduation
Beyond financing, BRI has made significant progress in helping UMKM “graduate” from subsidized loans to commercial credit. As of June 2026, 487,000 borrowers had successfully transitioned, representing 50.71 percent of the bank’s 2026 graduation target. This achievement highlights how KUR not only provides capital but also nurtures sustainable business growth.
Expanding into Housing Ecosystem
BRI has also extended its financing reach through the Kredit Program Perumahan (KPP), aimed at supporting housing supply and demand. By mid-2026, disbursement reached Rp 10.7 trillion, or 89 percent of the annual target. This initiative is expected to strengthen the housing sector’s capacity, stimulate related industries, and generate employment opportunities.
Upholding Prudence and Accountability
Despite the scale of disbursement, BRI emphasizes prudence in its lending practices. The bank maintains transparency and accountability to safeguard credit quality, recognizing that KUR funds originate from public deposits. This disciplined approach ensures that financing remains sustainable while delivering long-term value to both borrowers and the broader economy.
